Our outreach ministry is, by definition, the moment where the divisions that separate us in our daily lives come tumbling down and we are one with those in need. We help provide spiritual and economic sanctuaries in many ways for children, parents, and others responsible for children. We have a moral role in the community to reach out and help those in need.

Trinity's outreach ministries, sponsored by Trinity's Church and Society committee, include:

  • Trinity Tutors. Tutors work one-on-one with 2nd and 3rd graders at Stanton Elementary School. Tutors also teach basic reading and writing skills at the school in southeast Washington, D.C. Opportunities include helping with science projects, assisting in the library or health room, storytelling, or speaking at Career Day. To be a tutor or to help at the school, an enjoyment for working with children is paramount - teaching experience is not required. For more information, call Suzanne Hamilton, 703-759-6264.

  • Meals for Christ House. Six times a year, Trinity volunteers prepare and serve a meal for 60-80 persons at Christ House, a medical facility for the homeless in Adams Morgan. Help is needed to purchase food, and bake cookies during the week as well as to deliver, cook and serve the meal at Christ House on Saturday. This is a four-hour time commitment on Saturday between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. To volunteer, please contact Connie Jeremiah at 703.242.6536.

  • Martha's Table. Join the congregation at Fellowship Hour following Sunday worship on the second Sunday of every month as we make 1200 meat and cheese sandwiches. No experience is necessary, and it's a great way to meet other members. We also need drivers to deliver the sandwiches to Martha's Table in the District. For more information, contact the church office at 703.356.3312.

  • Habitat for Humanity. Trinity has partnered with the McLean Interfaith Coalition to support Habitat for Humanity. Besides financial support, the McLean Interfaith Coalition provides lunches and work crews for each of the Habitat builds. Habitat has already broken ground on their latest project, a townhouse in Fairfax, VA, and will be requiring volunteers to help construct it starting in June. Trinity (along with several other congregation work about two days a month, a Wednesday and a Saturday—where we get a chance to help build a house. No prior experience is required, and it's a lot of fun. An announcement will be made in the weekly bulletin once we learn when our build days are, but if you want to get on Trinity's Habitat mailing list or have any questions feel free to contact me, Matt Weir, 703-901-4525, charles.weir@ngc.com.
